Detailed Description

Who should attend

A terrific aspect of the Social Thinking ® Methodology is that it is packed with tools to inform both interventionists and the individuals they work or live with about how the social world works and how to learn to navigate to self-regulate toward improved social competencies for use in that world.

On the other hand, interventionists can feel overwhelmed by how complex the social world is and how each student functions uniquely within it, even when same-age students share similar diagnostic labels or eligibility categories.

This treatment* course addresses the unique learning needs of different age groups as social emotional learning continues to change shape and evolve across each social learner’s life, whether school-age or adult.

During this treatment course, we show how Social Thinking treatment frameworks and Social Thinking Vocabulary can be used together to teach different lessons on core concepts to foster understanding of how the social world works. A spotlight will focus on specific metacognitive tools designed for different age groups.

Two different treatment journeys, one a four-year longitudinal study of a child beginning at four years old and another of a school-phobic 13-year-old, are explored in some detail. Using core lessons provided within the Social Thinking Methodology, the clinician highlights initial treatment needs based on student and family values, treatment choices made by the clinician, and how the treatment program continued to evolve based on how each social learner responded to the intervention.

Each treatment journey concludes with a Q & A session to allow active participation from our online audience.
